Prairie at Calvary Cemetery Featured in Missouri Conservationist

“The prairie has added so much beauty to the cemetery. It established a lot of wildlife we didn’t have before.” -Tom Kuehner, director of grounds and facilities for Catholic Cemeteries

At Calvary Cemetery, 24 acres of original native grassland have been restored in a secluded, northwest portion of the cemetery, through a cooperative partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation. This partnership is featured in the August 2023 issue of the MDC’s magazine, Missouri Conservationist. Read the article at this link to learn more about this important feature of our sacred grounds.

Storm Cleanup Continues at Calvary Cemetery; Volunteers Needed!

Calvary Cemetery will remain closed to all visitors (outside of scheduled funerals) until Tuesday, September 5, due to ongoing cleanup of July’s storm damage. Our regularly scheduled decoration removal for September will take place at all Catholic Cemeteries locations except at Calvary Cemetery. We thank you for your patience as our dedicated groundsmen work to clear the debris at Calvary Cemetery.

We are asking for volunteers to assist in the final stages of branch removal at Calvary Cemetery. On Saturday August 26 and Saturday September 2, Calvary Cemetery will accept volunteers from 8:30AM to 12:30PM to help remove tree branches in the cemetery. Volunteers are asked to bring their own work gloves and water. More details will be posted on our Facebook page.
