Easter 2024

Easter 2024

Today we celebrate that wondrous event around which all of salvation history turns: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through His victory over death, the Lord saves us from the wages of sin and makes it possible for us to look forward to life everlasting with Him. The prophets anticipated it, the apostles testified to it, and we the faithful continue proclaiming it.

The gospels’ accounts of the resurrection describe the bewilderment, even fear, experienced by the disciples who discovered that Christ’s tomb was empty. After this initial reaction comes the joy of realizing what has taken place. May this same joy be in our hearts! And may it fuel our expectation as we await the blessed hope of seeing Christ with our own eyes.

The ministry of Catholic Cemeteries testifies to this blessed hope, and to “the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come” (as we profess in the Nicene Creed). In fulfilling the Gospel call to bury the dead and to comfort those who mourn, we announce the Lord’s triumph over the grave.

Having journeyed through Lent with you, we are overjoyed now to enter the Easter season together. May the risen Lord pour out His grace upon us.
