A Natural Setting for Reflection

prairie

Among the grounds of Calvary Cemetery, there is a section that celebrates the wild beauty of God’s creation. These 24 acres are tallgrass prairie, filled with the native grasses and wildflowers that once covered a third of Missouri. Scores of wildlife species make their home in this prairie, too - from birds, to pollinators, to deer, and more.

Surrounded by the urban landscape, the Calvary Cemetery Prairie offers a unique setting for prayer and reflection. We invite you to visit and explore. Calvary Cemetery is located at 5239 W Florissant Ave., Saint Louis, MO 63115.

To learn more about the restoration effort which, in partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation, made it possible to enjoy this prairie environment, read this article from the St. Louis Review.
